PCES serves pre-k through 5th grade students and is the sole public elementary school in Putnam County. The faculty and staff utilize the Georgia Performance Standards to guide their unit planning and daily instruction. Student achievement is at the forefront of all instruction. Data from local and state testing programs drive the planning and development of age appropriate activities all PCES students receive each day. Reading and math activities are guided by our academic coaches. These individuals provide assistance to all staff members during classroom instruction and during classroom assessments. Community members having a special interest in the science and social studies areas are welcome to assist our staff during instructional time.
All students are provided the opportunity to develop their mental and physical skills through physical education, technology instruction, art and music. These classes are offered each week to all students through a rotating schedule. The staff members leading these instructional activities are highly qualified in their respective fields. PCES is fortunate to have two technology labs, a gymnasium equipped with age appropriate equipment, an art room and a music room for students to enjoy.
Educating all students is the top priority at PCES. The gifted education program, SAGE, is offered for students demonstrating exceptional sills in a wide range of areas. Teachers, parents, students and others may inquire about the qualifications of the SAGE program at any time during the year. Testing for the SAGE program is done at PCES a minimum of two times a year.
Students with special needs are also provided a learning environment that will meet their unique instructional needs. PCES has inclusion classrooms on each grade level as well as self contained and resource class settings to meet the individual needs of students who qualify for special educational services. Speech services, vision impaired services, and occupational and physical therapy are offered for those students needing assistance.
PCES students are encouraged to participate in extra curricular activities throughout the year. Many staff members sponsor activities that enhance the special interest of all students such as the Chess Club, Art Club, Music Club, Green Thumb Garden Club, Step Team, Basketball and Archery teams, and Critter Club to mention a few. Parents, family members and community members are always welcome to join the students during these meetings. Community programs such as 4-H is offered to 4th and 5th graders and the DARE program is offered to all 5th graders.
PCES also participates in the Jr. Beta Club a, a 4th-8th grade group associated with the National Beta Club. The PCES Jr. Beta Club invitation is sent to 4th and 5th grade students after the first semester of each year. These students must meet the requirements set forth by the National Beta Club organization. These members take part in a wide range of community service projects as well as trips and outings. Beta Club members are encouraged to continue their involvement in Beta Club during their middle and high school years.
Parents and community members are always welcome to visit, observe in classrooms and take part in programs and activities planned for PCES students. Reading Buddies, Peer Tutors and volunteering throughout the school are just a few activities that our community friends and parents are welcome to join.
PCES is composed of a highly qualified, dedicated and caring staff. PCES is committed to serving all of its students in the most appropriate manner possible. Our school values all of its students and their parents, and its staff strive to work cooperatively with both students and parents to assure that the highest quality of educational services are afforded the children of Putnam County. www.putnam.k12.ga.us/pces/
