Putnam General Hospital

Serving the area for nearly 40 years, Putnam General Hospital (PGH) prides itself on quality healthcare and compassion for its patients. The hospital boasts a staff of highly trained employees who are ready to meet your healthcare needs. The hospital is located on Lake Oconee Parkway / Highway 44 near Eatonton.

More than 60 doctors are on staff at PGH, including specialists in cardiology, urology, gynecology, aesthetic surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, podiatry and ear, nose and throat. All physicians on staff are Board Certified or Board Eligible.

The newest in imaging and laboratory technology provide the hospital’s physicians the information they need to diagnose patients quickly and accurately. The hospital is proud to offer its physicians and patients the following diagnostic services: MRI, CT Scan, Ultrasound, Digital X-rays, mammography and an in-house laboratory.

Services such as Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation are available on site. For the elderly or disabled, the hospital offers Lifeline, an emergency distress system in which people can summon help at the push of a button.

The hospital has experienced major growth and renovation over the past 10 years. Areas that have been updated or enlarged include the Physical Therapy department, the Cardiac Rehabilitation department and the addition of a second operating room. Additions to the operating room include a waiting room, a patient teaching room and a new five-bed pre-operative and recovery area.

Putnam General provides a 24-hour Emergency Department staffed by a contracted group of physicians. Emergency Department nurses are specially trained in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. In the event of serious trauma injuries or cardiac events, the hospital contracts with emergency helicopter services to fly patients to the nearest trauma or cardiac hospital for care, including large medical centers in Atlanta, Macon and Augusta.

A countywide ambulance service maintains fully equipped, advanced life support emergency vehicles, which are always on call. The service employs emergency medical technicians and paramedics who are trained in all life saving emergencies, such as motor vehicle accidents and accidental poisonings. The county-funded ambulances also make emergency transfers to other cities when needed. www.putnamgeneral.com/
