Tourism is the second largest industry in the state of Georgia and ranks among the top three in Putnam County. We are home to Lakes Oconee (374 miles of shoreline) and Sinclair (417 miles of shoreline), with approximately 250 miles around Putnam County. These lakes translate into excellent fishing, water sports and lots of second recreational homes. This in turn grows jobs in the construction and service industries. While many may not considerer Tourism an industry; we here in Putnam County do.
Tourist travel to our community not only for the natural resources that we possess, like the lakes and national forest, but also for our cultural, shopping and educational opportunities. There are over 600 jobs in our community directly related to tourism.
Rock Eagle 4-H Center plays host to over 65,000 guests each year. Most people associate the Center with children and summer camp but it is also host to many adult groups such as church and civic organizations, educational conferences and sports camp.
Heritage Tourism is quickly becoming the hottest market and we are blessed with exceptional architecture and history that dates back to the Native American Indians and travels through the Civil War (sometimes called the War of Northern Aggression) into the agricultural era which is still very much alive in Putnam County.
Come be a part of Putnam County’s fastest growing industry.
